Servas members and friends met in Haifa to celebrate The Jewish New Year and the International Peace Day – meeting old friends and new ones, getting to know each other better, learning about Amalia, the Bedouin turned Jew, and leaving with a taste for more.

On a Saturday afternoon in Haifa, we gathered: 20 Servas members and 5 guests at Miriam’s house for a social meeting, and to meet Amalia Zandonovsky.
The meeting began with a toast, celebrating the Jewish New Year and the International Peace Day. Claudia greeted the participants in the name of Servas Israel.
After an enjoyable hour of meeting friends, getting to know the guests and tasting the delicacies brought by friends, we sat down in a circle for an introductory exercise. The acquaintance exercise, presented by Tova, allowed members to introduce themselves, and gave other members the opportunity to get to know them.
Miriam then invited Amalia to share her life story with us. The dramatic one-woman show fascinated us all. A life story of looking for identity in a complex society like the Israeli society, a Bedouin girl looking for her way to convert and become part of Jewish Israeli society.
The meeting ended with a discussion of the concept of meetings and the opportunity they provide for creating a local social club which will enhance the inter-personal connections within Servas Israel.

מפגש “חבר מביא חבר” בחיפה החל בהרמת כוסית וברכות לרגל המפגש והשנה החדשה, קלאודיה ברכה בשם סרווס ישראל לכבוד ראש השנה ויום השלום הבינ”ל.
שעה קלה של מפגש-רעים וזלילת המטעמים שהביאו החברים שאחריו, ארגנה טובה, תרגיל היכרות שאפשר לחברים להציג את עצמם, לרענן היכרויות ישנות, או להכיר חברים חדשים.
המארחת שלנו הביאה למפגש את עמליה, וסיפור חייה כפי שהוגש על ידה בכמה אופנים, במשחק ובסיפור , ריתק את כולנו. סיפור חיים של חיפוש זהות בחברה מורכבת כמו החברה הישראלית, נערה בדואית שמחפשת את דרכה להתגייר ולהפוך לחלק מהחברה הישראלית יהודית.
החברים שמחו להיפגש ונפרדנו בהרגשה של רצון להמשיך למפגשים נוספים.
