Traveling with Servas is often rewarding in unexpected ways.
Although almost always it takes me a lot of effort to find a Servas Host that is available and within travel distance. No matter what country, for some thirty years.
In Israël I arrived early on sabbath morning.
By lack of public transport, I had to find other ways. Even though I intended to walk to my host, people came up with a variety of solutions.
Not only Servas hosts, but many accidental citizens proofed caring. During the week strangers paid my bus-tickets or shared their phone to help me out. Everybody seems serviable.
It may be their natural deep love for Life and Humanity. These people might have become even more thirsty for friendship now that the world seemed to have turned against Israel.
Young people that ask me about my love for Israel and start shining. Servas has many retired members. They have survived much hardship and they like to share their stories.
Servas Israel has proven to be the best accommodating of all my traveling life. For me, as a History teacher, I find it encouraging to support Israel in its relentless effort to make peace and to understand the world through both science and faith.
