Lesley wrote about Servas Israel “Friend brings friend” meeting in Jerusalem:

Friday, the 20th September 2019, 15 Jerusalem Servas members met together with four friends in the Community Garden beside the Museum of Natural History.

Amnon Herzig, a central activist in the garden, spoke to us about its develoעדent. Some 14 years ago residents of the neighbourhood began restoring the garden in order to prevent the land being taken over by real estate. The garden has become a vibrant community enterprise promoting sustainability, nature conservation and community activities, including ‘Shabbat in Nature’ event once a month.

Amnon led us through the garden, pointing out charming corners using the natural habitat, fruit trees, flowers and herbs. Dotted among the greenery there are wooden benches, a children’s climbing corner, a little hut surrounded by flowers, and more – all using natural materials and made by the garden’s many volunteers.

We returned to sit around a table laden with sweetmeats in the shade of the garden’s clubhouse.

We had a round with people introducing themselves and speaking in short about their Servas experiences. We were joined by Shalva, a Servas member from Haifa.

The morning ended on a musical note with Revital playing the flute and then accompanying Amitai who lead us in the singing of ‘Leha Dodi’.

We were all happy to meet in such a congenial atmosphere leaving a taste for more Servas get-togethers in the near future.
